Saint Joseph is one of the most revered saints in the Catholic Church, yet he remains somewhat of a mystery. He was chosen by God Himself to be the earthly father of Jesus and the husband of Mary.
Who Was Joseph?
Joseph was a carpenter from Nazareth, a descendant of King David. When he learned Mary was pregnant, he planned to divorce her quietly—but an angel appeared to him in a dream, telling him the child was from the Holy Spirit.
Joseph obeyed immediately. He took Mary into his home, protected her honor, and raised Jesus as his own son.

- Saint Francis de Sales declared: "There are many saints who have been assigned to particular needs, but Joseph has been appointed to help with all of our needs."
- Saint Joseph was proclaimed Patron of the Universal Church by Pope Pius IX in 1870.
