Who is Michael?
Michael is one of the seven archangels mentioned in Scripture. His name in Hebrew means "Who is like God?"—a question of defiance against Satan's pride.

History of the Prayer
This prayer was composed by Pope Leo XIII in 1884 after he experienced a disturbing vision. He mandated that it be prayed after every Low Mass. While this practice has diminished, the prayer remains powerful and relevant.
