Our Father (The Lord's Prayer)

Traditional Catholic Prayers

Our Father, who art in heaven,

hallowed be thy name;

thy kingdom come;

thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread;

and forgive us our trespasses

as we forgive those who trespass against us;

and lead us not into temptation,

but deliver us from evil.

Amen.

📜History

The Our Father, also known as the Lord's Prayer, was taught by Jesus Christ himself to his disciples when they asked him how to pray (Matthew 6:9-13). It is considered the perfect prayer as it was given to us directly by Jesus and contains all the elements of a complete prayer: praise, petition, and submission to God's will.

🕊️How to Pray

  1. Begin with a moment of silence to center yourself in God's presence.
  2. Make the Sign of the Cross.
  3. Pray each line slowly, reflecting on its meaning.
  4. Pay special attention to the words that speak most to your current needs or situation.
  5. Consider praying it multiple times, focusing on different aspects each time.
  6. Conclude with the Sign of the Cross.
