Our Father (The Lord's Prayer)
Traditional Catholic Prayers
Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name;
thy kingdom come;
thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our trespasses
as we forgive those who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
Amen.
📜History
The Our Father, also known as the Lord's Prayer, was taught by Jesus Christ himself to his disciples when they asked him how to pray (Matthew 6:9-13). It is considered the perfect prayer as it was given to us directly by Jesus and contains all the elements of a complete prayer: praise, petition, and submission to God's will.
🕊️How to Pray
- Begin with a moment of silence to center yourself in God's presence.
- Make the Sign of the Cross.
- Pray each line slowly, reflecting on its meaning.
- Pay special attention to the words that speak most to your current needs or situation.
- Consider praying it multiple times, focusing on different aspects each time.
- Conclude with the Sign of the Cross.
